South Panola Lady Tiger’s basketball senior point guard Christa Brown has become the first player to be ranked in the state and the nation in scoring by MaxPreps.
Ranked at No. 16 in the nation, Brown has scored 382 points in 13 games and averaged 29.4 points per game.
Her highest scoring game was 42 points against Brooks High School on November 28. She has made 145 field goals of 221 with a 66 percent average and made 87 of 133 free throws.
Per game Brown has an average of 2.5 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 4.8 steals.
Brown is ranked No. 2 in Mississippi behind No. 1 Scott Central forward Victoria Vivians who has played 26 games and averaged 37 points per game.
Lady Tiger head coach Ralph Stallings said this was the first player at South Panola to ever be ranked.
“I know this is something that’s a great honor and I’m excited for her because she’s getting some recognition and maybe that’ll help to pave the way for a few more colleges to take interest even though we’ve got a lot of interest right now. We’re just looking to find the very best fit for her for next year.
“Christa is a great young lady that’s given everything this year and taken a lot of bumps and bruises because she’s had a lot of double and triple teams but still managed to get the points,” Stallings added.
Brown has made MaxPreps player of the week three times. Friday night she scored 24 points in the game at Grenada.
