Tigers split DH with Oxford

The South Panola Tiger baseball team hosted the Oxford Chargers Tuesday and split a doubleheader.

The Chargers won the first game 9-2 but the Tigers roared back in the nightcap 8-6.

In game one, the Chargers scored one run in top of the first. The Tigers tied the game with Taylor Meek’s run in bottom of the fourth. Oxford retook the lead in top of the fifth, adding one run. A three-run sixth inning padded the lead, 5-1.

 Blake Darby doubled in the bottom of the sixth, driving home two runs to cut the lead 5-3 going into the seventh.

The game took a big turn in the top of the seventh when the bases were loaded for the Chargers thanks to a fielding error on the part of the Tigers. Oxford pitcher Hunter Roth singled as the ball went under the first baseman’s glove. Roth and the three runners on base scored for the 9-2 victory.

The second game went the Tiger’s way. The Chargers scored two runs in top of the first. The Tigers rallied to take a 4-2 lead. Andrew Horne, Bobby Epps, Chase Whitten and Will Daugherty all singled and scored.

In top of the third the Chargers added four runs for the 6-4 lead.

The Tigers would not be denied this game. The Tigers again scored four runs in bottom of the fourth to retake the lead, 8-6.

Whitten doubled to start the action. Daugherty followed with a single. Hunter Ivy hit a two-RBI triple scoring Whitten and Daugherty.

Will Dickins doubled sending Ivy home for the final score of the game.

The junior game against Lafayette tonight has been canceled.

The seniors will play Monday at Grenada in a doubleheader at 4 and 6 p.m. Tuesday, the Tigers will host Lewisburg in a 5 and 7 p.m. doubleheader.
