Jackie Edward Bolen

SARDIS– Jackie Edward Bolen, 61, died Monday, April 3, 2011, at his residence.

Graveside services were Wednesday at Longtown Cemetery. Ray-Nowell Funeral Home had charge.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Prentis Bolen and Linnie Jenkins Bolen.

He is survived by his brother, Noil Bolen of Como.

Martha Womack Byers

PONTOTOC–Martha Womack Byers, 85, died Wednesday, April 6, 2011, at her daughter’s home in Pontotoc.

Graveside services will be held today at 10 a.m. at Forrest Memorial Park. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Byers, born July 31, 1925, in Batesville, to the late James L. and Martha Sivley Womack, was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Grady Byers Jr. and one daughter, Sara Jane Byers McCullar.

Survivors include: two daughters, Robbie Byers of Pontotoc and Fran Byers of Batesville; one sister, Joyce Whitaker of Batesville; two grandchildren, Jennifer Zupo and her husband, Robert of Sequin, Texas and Michael McCullar and his wife, Britney of New Braunfels, Texas; two great-grandchildren, Waylon Grady McCullar of New Braunfels and Brooklyn Fay Zupo of Sequin, Texas and two step-great-grandchildren, Weston and Wyatt of New Braunfels.

Edward Conard

COLDWATER–Edward Conard, 57, died Wednesday, April 6, 2011, at Haywood Community Hospital.

Services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Antioch No. 1 M.B. Church in Senatobia. Felix Cauthen Funeral Home has charge.

Conrad was a member of Antioch No. 1 M.B. Church.

Survivors include: his wife, Margaret Conard; two sons, Jason Conard of Como and Corey Echoles of Kansas; his mother, Ethel Conard of Coldwater; three sisters, Martha Leverson, Evelyn Mallory and Muphytine Davis, all of Coldwater; one brother, Willie Conard of Coldwater and two grandchildren.

Sarah Hartzell Darby

BATESVILLE–Sarah Hartzell Darby, 94, died Friday, April 1, 2011, at Senatobia Convalescent Center.

Services were Sunday at Wells Funeral Home. Rev. Roy Hartzell officiated. Burial was in Shiloh Cemetery. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Darby, born Aug. 12, 1916, in Memphis, to the late Clifford and Emma Holt Hartzell, was a retired school teacher and a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church. During her teaching career she started teaching at Independence School, Pope School and West Panola Academy. She taught for 35 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack M. Darby.

Survivors include: her son, Jack Wayne Darby and his wife Bess of Courtland; two grandchildren, Sarah Elizabeth “Liz” Darby Wilson and Cindy Darby Armstrong and four great-grandchildren.

Harry Pratt Fowler

WALNUT–Harry Pratt Fowler, 80, formerly of Batesville, died Sunday, March 22, 2011, at his residence.

Services were Thursday, March 24 at McBride Funeral Home Chapel in Ripley. Larry Dollar and Steve DeVore officiated. Burial was in Tiplersville Cemetery. McBride Funeral Home in Ripley had charge.

Fowler, born March 18, 1931, in Batesville, to the late John Angelo and Nettie Gray Fowler, was retired from Sequentia Inc. He was a member of Tiplersville Baptist church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Juanita Dollar Fowler.

Survivors include: one son, William Eugene Fowler of Maben; one sister, Ossie Fay Fowler of Texas and one brother, Douglas Fowler of Batesville.

Julean T. Morgan

BATESVILLE– Julean T. Morgan, 91, died Tuesday, April 5, 2011, at her residence.

Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary. Pastor Mark Conner will officiate. Visitation will be held today from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.

Morgan, born March 26, 1920, to the late Gene Jones and Clayton Wallace, was a homemaker and a member of Second Concord M.B. Church. She was on the Mother Board.

Survivors include: one daughter, LeeVern Morgan of Marks; two sons, Charlie Thornton of Batesville and Eddie Marvin Thornton of Courtland; five step-daughters, Clara Thornton of Batesville, Sarah Criss, Carrie Morgan, Barbara Morgan and Irene Thornton, all of Memphis; five step-sons, Eddie Lee Bumpers of Pritchard, Willie James Morgan, Earnest James Morgan, Rayford Morgan, all of New Orleans and Curtis Morgan of Memphis; two sisters, Susie Conner of Batesville and Florence Lewis of Sardis; 73 grandchildren; 107 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren.

Rev. Paul David Snellgrove

BATESVILLE–Reverend Paul David Snellgrove, 71, and retired Presbyterian minister, died  Wednesday evening, April 6, 2011 at his home.

Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m today at the Batesville Presbyterian Church with visitation beginning two hours prior to the service at 1:00 p.m. in the church sanctuary.

Rev. Snellgrove was born May 15, 1939 in Gadsden, AL to the late Paul R. and Mary Ford Snellgrove.

He attended and completed Columbia Seminary from 1970 to 1973. He was ordained by the St. Andrew Presbytery at Ripley Presbyterian Church in 1973. Reverend Snellgrove’s ministry began in Ripley, as he pastored the Presbyterian Church from 1973 to 1976. Upon moving to Batesville, in 1976, David and his wife would remain here to make their home to raise their family and pastor the Batesville Presbyterian Church until 1984. From 1985 until 1999 Reverend Snellgrove served as the Executive Presbyter of St. Andrew Presbytery and then Synod Executive of the Synod of Living Waters from 1999 until his retirement in 2004. From the late 1980’s and into the ealry 1990’s, David was moderator for the GAPJC (and then also served an additional partial term from 2004 – 2006).

He was a member of the “Committee to Review Disciplinanry Process” that re-wrote much of the Rules of Discipline from 1992 – 1994.

Survivors include: his wife, Martha “Marty” Pettey Snellgrove of Batesville; one daughter, Kim Renfroe Nix of Batesville; two sons, Al Snellgrove of Luverne, Ala., Eric Snellgrove of Oxford; sister, Judy Snellgrove Huffty of Avinger, Texas, brother, Mike Snellgrove of Aquilla, Texas; foster-sister, Mae Whitten of Columbus and six grandchildren, Anna Ray Snellgrove, Margaret Erin Snellgrove, David Cohen Renfroe, Emily Catherine Snellgrove, Paul Wesley Snellgrove, Sarah Cathryn Snellgrove and one step-granddaughter, Lilly Mallory Nix.

Memorials may be sent to the Batesville Prebyterian Church or a charity of the donor’s choice.

Ruby Jean Tiner White

COURTLAND–Ruby Jean Tiner White, 76, died Tuesday, March 29, 2011, at her daughter’s home in Courtland.

Services were Thursday at Wells Funeral Home. Dr. Tommy Snyder of First Baptsit Church officiated. Burial was in Forrest Memorial Park. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

White, born June 11, 1934, in Calhoun County, to the late Edward and Elizabeth Hardin Melton, was a member of Enid Lake Baptist Church and the Fellowship Sunday School Class of the First Baptist Church of Batesville. She was a retired factory worker.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Clifford Bailey Tiner and James Normand White.

Survivors include: four daughters, Patty Tiner Daugherty, Daile Tiner Johnson, Kathleen Tiner Fortner and Patricia Tiner, all of Courtland; two sons, Randy Tiner of Courtland and Tom Tiner of Enid; one sister, Mattie Bland of Batesville; one brother, Wayne Melton of Enid; 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
