Green Wave teams pound Winona

Jim Tom Copeland poured in 21 points to lead four players in double figure scoring as the North Delta Green Wave  eased past Winona Christian 69-47 Monday night at North Delta School.

Bryan ‘B’ Nickle followed Copeland in the scoring column with 18 points while Derrick Shawn and Matthew Barefoot added 13 and 12 points each as the Green Wave improved their record to 5-1 on the season.

The North Delta junior high and varsity girls teams also came away with a pair of easy victories over Winona as the junior high Lady Wave moved to 14-1 on the year with a 40-12 win while the varsity squad hammered the Stars 39-13 behind junior Laci DuBravec’s 16 points.

NDJH Ladies

Erin Snider paced the junior high Green Wave with nine points, six rebounds and three steals while Julianna Morrow chipped in with eight points, four steals and five assists. Claire Gant followed with six points while Hastings Neal, Jordan Pullen and Mary Lynn Lewis all contributed with four points each.

Shelby Province and Peyton Rico rounded out scoring with three and two points.

Varsity Ladies

In varsity girls action, North Delta (11-4) jumped to a 24-7 first quarter lead then cruised the rest of the way to pick up the easy victory. Hannah Waldrip and Madison Greenlee registered seven points each while Katelyn Still added four points, eight tips and seven steals. Bradi Beard led the defensive charge for North Delta with seven rebounds and four steals while dishing out five assists and two points.

North Delta will travel to West Memphis, Ark. today in a District 1-AA tilt before returning home Saturday at 12:30 to square off against Marvell, Ark. to start the holiday break.
