The North Delta School baseball squad ran its unbeaten streak to nine games in a row during the week with a pair of  district wins over Tunica 10-4 and Marvell, (Ark) 16-0 in three innings. In doing so, the Green Wave sewed up the District 1-1A title and will await a wild card opponent in the first round of the North 1A Academy playoffs that will begin in two weeks. North Delta closed out the district slate yesterday against Delta on  ‘Senior Day.’

In Monday’s win over Tunica, Jim Tom Copeland spun a complete game victory on the hill to improve to 3-1 on the year. The sophomore gave up four runs (two earned) while striking out eight and walking one on five hits. Copeland did suffer a rough day at the plate however by getting hit-by-pitch three times in the game.

Geri Lamm led North Delta offensively with a double and single while Michael Magee added a double. Bateman Greenlee, Britt Lawrence and Bailey Guckert each singled. North Delta laid down seven sacrifice bunts.

The Greenies had little trouble with Marvell Tuesday as they rolled up nine runs in the second and six in the third to win going away. But the story of the game was freshman Ethan Waldrip who pitched all three innings to pick up his first high school victory.

Waldrip had plenty of support as the Wave pounded out 12 hits on the day as Lamm and Magee each had a pair of singles while Copeland singled and doubled. Sy Pritchard doubled while John Cody Dalrymple chipped in with two singles. Lawrence, Guckert and Hunter West followed with singles.
