ND trumps West Memphis in 15-0 romp

By Brad Greer

North Delta did not need  the luck of the Irish on this Saint Patrick’s Day as the Green Wave stole five bases and took advantage of three West Memphis errors in a five-run first inning in route to a 15-0 District 1-1A romp over the Black Knights  Monday afternoon. The game was called after three innings due to the 15-run mercy rule.

Josh Garrott drew a leadoff walk in the bottom of the first inning to start the Wave uprising. J.T. Dalrymple knocked in the first run with a RBI triple to left. Jim Tom Copeland followed by reaching on a walk and was later chased home on a run-scoring single by Micheal Magee, who then advanced to third as the ball got past the right fielder for a two-base error.

West Memphis looked to be out of the inning when starting pitcher Geri Lamm tapped back to the pitcher, but Wes Sheffer overthrew the first baseman allowing Magee to score for a 4-0 lead. Anthony Gant then kept the inning going by reaching on yet another West Memphis error. After a passed ball that allowed Gant to second base, first baseman Britt Lawerence slapped a single past third to plate the final run of the frame.

That would be more than enough run support Lamm would need on the day as the sophomore pitched two innings to get the win on the mound. The right hander gave up three hits while striking out one batter. Bateman Greenlee took to the hill for the final inning, giving up one hit while fanning a batter.

North Delta sent 13 batters to the plate in a nine-run second inning to put the game away.

After Garrott and Dalrymple reached on a walk and error, Copeland drilled a double down the left field line to score a pair of runs. Two batters later, Copeland scored on a ground out by Magee for a 8-0 Wave lead. Lamm and Gant followed with a pair of two-out walks then scored on Lawerence’s double.

The inning continued as No. 9 hitter Matthew Pike reached on a walk then later scored on Dalrymple’s second triple of the day. Copeland’s RBI single then scored Dalrymple for the final run of the frame.

The Wave put the finishing touches on the game in the bottom of the third as Lamm reached on a one-out double. Pinch-hitter John Cody Dalrymple then drilled a single to center than scored courtesy runner Rob Maddux from second for the final run.

J.T. Dalrymple, Copeland and Lawrence all recorded two hits and three RBIs each to lead North Delta at the plate. The Green Wave, who fell to Kirk 10-8 Tuesday, evened their record at 3-3 on the season will travel to Tunica Institute Monday for a district matchup.

Thursday, the Green Wave will host Delta in district action beginning at 4 p.m.
