James Tommy Aldison Jr.

SLEDGE– James Tommy Aldison Jr., 82, died Sunday, September 2, 2007, at his residence.

Services were Tuesday at Hollywood Baptist Church in Sledge. Burial was in Longtown Cemetery in Crenshaw. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Aldison, born Aug. 11, 1925, in Tibbs to the late James Tommy and Decie Parrish Aldison Sr., was a member of Hollywood Baptist Church and a farmer of J.T. Aldison Jr. Farms. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII.

Survivors include: his wife, Frankie Harrison Aldison of Sledge; one daughter, Melinda Jear Aldison of Memphis; one son, James Tommy “Al” Aldison III of Sledge; one brother, John Donald Aldison of Crenshaw; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.


Doris Dempsey Green

SARDIS– Doris Dempsey Green, 81, died Sunday, September 2, 2007, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Desoto.

Services were Tuesday at Memphis Funeral Home on Poplar. Pastor Jerry Sanford officiated. Memphis Funeral Home had charge.

Green, born Jan. 19, 1926, in Drew to the late James Curtis and Betty Louise Tomlinson Long, was a Past  Worthy Grand Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, Frayser Chapter. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sardis where she served as Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher and worked with the Senior Citizens Group. She participated in various U.S. mission trips with the Panola County Missionary Association and worked at Ben Franklin’s Distribution Center in Memphis for over 10 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Dempsey; two sisters, Robby Fay Long and Bonnie Louise Kahn and two brothers, Lester El Garner and Marlin Wayne Long.

Survivors include: her husband, Hugh Wilson Green of Sardis; two daughters, Betty Joyce Gillentine of Sardis and Janett Dempsey Morris of Hilton Head Island, S.C.; two sons, Glenn Dempsey of Michie, Tenn. and Bobby Jack Dempsey of Benton, Ky.; four sisters, Reese Bedwell of Counce, Tenn., Robbie Barron of Clarksdale, Syble Hall of Sumerville, Tenn. and Cheryl Avent of Eads, Tenn.; three brothers, James Long of Cleveland, Sonny Long and Philip Long , both of Millington, Tenn.; 14 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and three step-children.


Frances Overa Daugherty

POPE– Frances Overa Daugherty, 71, died Tuesday, September 4, 2007, at Yalobusha General Hospital Nursing Home  in Water Valley.

Services were Thursday at Bethany Baptist Church. Burial was in Chapel Hill Cemetery. Rev. Tim Ellis officiated. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.

Frances, born May 2, 1936, to  the late S.B. and Delma Sanders Ellis, was a member of Bethany Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, J.D. Daugherty Sr.

Survivors include: two sons, J.D. Daugherty of Pope and Dan Daugherty of Batesville; two brothers, Randolph Ellis and John M. Ellis, both of Courtland; two sisters, Roxie Pate and Clara Kuczkowski of Batesville; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.


John Randolph “Randy” Holden

MEMPHIS– John Randolph “Randy” Holden, 50, died Friday, August 31, 2007, at the Memphis Regional Medical Center.

Graveside services were Sunday at Friendship Cemetery in Como. Moore-Nowell Funeral Home had charge.

Holden was born to the late Ernestine Taylor Holden and the late Stephen Arthur “Doc” Holden.

Survivors include: one sister, Katie Chilton of Menlo Park, Calif., and two brothers, Bill Holden of Gulfport and Henry Holden of Memphis.


Marie B. King

WASHINGTON, Mo.– Marie B. King, 91, formerly of Enid, died Monday, September 3, 2007, at her residence.

Graveside services are Saturday at 11 a.m. Mt. Pisgah Cemetery in Enid. Rev. Marty Evans will officiate. Nieburg-Vitt Funeral Home has charge.

King, born Dec. 30, 1915, to the late Joe Beaird and M. Rowena Hall, graduated from Enid High School and Draughons Business College in Memphis.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William A. King; one son, Michael King; one brother, Ben Beaird and one sister, Gladys Lewellan.

Survivors include: two sons, William R. King and David A. King, both of Washington, Mo.; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.


Robert Leon Roberson

SLEDGE– Robert Leon Roberson, 43, died Monday, September 3, 2007, at his residence.

Services are Saturday at 2 p.m. at Mt. Level M.B. Church in Como. Rev. Bobby Walker will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Level Cemetery in Como. Visitation will be 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary with family hour from 6 p.m. – 7 p.m. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.  

Roberson, born Aug. 19, 1964, in Sardis to Gensie Taylor Roberson of Sardis and the late James Willie Roberson Jr., was a construction worker and a member of Mt. Level M.B. Church in Como.

Survivors along with his mother include: one son, Robert Leon Roberson Jr. of Sardis; two sisters, Pamela Stitts and Angela Roberson, both of Sardis and two brothers, James C. Roberson and Derrick L. Roberson, both of Sardis.


Nolan Sanford

COURTLAND– Nolan Sanford, 89, died Friday, August 31, 2007, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi.

Services are Saturday at 11 a.m. at Shiloh M.B. Church in Courtland. Rev. Carl Brown will officiate. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at at Cooley’s Mortuary and Saturday 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. at Shiloh M.B. Church. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.

Sanford, born Oct. 10, 1917, in Courtland to the late Doc Sanford and the late Atlena Hentz, was a retired truck driver for Dunlap and Kyle. He was a member of Shiloh M.B. Church in Courtland.

Survivors include: his friend and caregiver Eva Hardy of Courtland; two sisters, Lora Green of Batesville and Rosie Dukes of Arkansas and two brothers, Daniel Thomas and Edsell Thomas, both of Courtland.
