Byron Leftwich had the better of things in Wednesday’s, Dec. 18, GMAC Bowl, billed as a clash of two of the nation’s top QBs.  Leftwich’s four TD passes led Marshall to a 38-15 victory over Louisville giving the Herd five straight bowl wins.

Playing for the Herd team is Panola County native Toriano Brown. Defensive lineman Brown wears No. 94 and just finished his junior year.

This season Brown played in all 13 games for the Herd. He had 48 solo tackles and assisted on 43 tackles for a total of 91. He had 14.5 sacks for 44 yards. He also had five tackles for 25 loss yards. He had two interceptions for five yards and one quarterback hurry.

Brown was a member of the 1998 South Panola state championship team and was home over the Christmas holidays. Brown said he was glad the bowl game was played before the holidays so he can spend the time with his mom Rosemary, daughter Kasja and other family members.

Brown was redshirted his first season with the Herd and during the second season did not see playing time due to a thigh injury.
