Powerlifters place first in regionals

BATESVILLE- The South Panola powerlifting team traveled to Coffeeville to compete in the regional meet Saturday, February 16.

Emerging from the meet with qualifications to participate in the 5A North Half meet were Lendrell Barksdale, in the 242 pound class, and Brannon Poland, in the 198 pound class. Barksdale and Poland placed first in their respective classes.

Barksdale squat 430 pounds, benched 275 pounds and deadlifted 460 pounds for a total of 1,165 pounds.

Poland squat 400 pounds, benched 300 pounds and deadlifted 425 pounds for a total of 1,125.

Lady Tigers open season with a win

BATESVILLE- The Lady Tiger fastpitch softball team open the 2002 spring season with a 2-1 win over Hernando, Tuesday, February 19.

The Lady Tigers took the diamond behind backup pitcher Camille Willis, who started her first varsity game.

 
Lady Green Wave advances to semi-finals

The North Delta lady Green Wave defeated Central Hinds Academy, 40-36, in the first round of the overall AAA State Tournament, Wednesday, February 20.

Early in the game, the Lady Green Wave dominated and led 11-2 at the end of the first quarter.  For complete story, see the 2/22 edition of The Panolian.


SP ladies basketball season ends with loss to Columbus

BATESVILLE – The South Panola Lady Tigers hosted Columbus in the first round of the North Half playoffs, Monday, February 18. 

After finding themselves down by 10 points in the second quarter, Columbus staged a comeback and 20 point win over the Lady Tigers, 58-38.
