The North Delta Fastpitch team hosted district foe Saint Joseph Catholic School Monday night and walked away with a 14-2 blowout victory.
At the end of the game, it felt like an easy victory, but that was not the case in the early stage of the game.  After one and a half innings were played, the score was 3-2 North Delta.  The Green Wave needed to pull away soon.
In the next inning, they would score three runs on a few walks and an error with two outs.  North Delta was getting runners in scoring position but struggling to score.  Timely hits were needed.
It was two outs with runners in scoring position again in the third inning.  This time Ally Alford stepped up to the plate.  She received a 2-0-fastball right where she wanted it and rocketed it to the fence. Janie Brassel(single) came around to score while Alford ran the marathon to get an inside the park homerun.  The Lady Green Wave would score three in the third, and it created a spark on offense.  Maci Kirkland found her groove after the rough second inning and only allowed two runners on base on no hits and three strikeouts.
The fourth inning felt different.  The approach at the plate had changed.  The confidence was up, and the Green Wave needed five runs to run rule the Fighting Irish.
They did just that. Hailey Rikard started with a bomb of a triple to the fence.  That was followed with Taylor Barton getting hit in the head for the third time in a row.
Isabella Morrow then hit a two RBI (run batted in) single into left center. She reached second and was brought in by Emy Cay Donaldson’s single past the shortstop. Griffin Rico crushed one to right, bringing in Donaldson.
The bats were clicking, were on fire, and needed just one more run.  After a Brassel push bunt for a hit, Alford stepped up again.
She answered the call again with an RBI single through the left side of the infield to seal the victory.
Alford led all hitters with two hits, two runs and four RBIs. She was followed by Brassel, two hits and four runs scored; Rikard, one hit, two runs, one RBI; Barton, three hit by pitches, one run, one RBI; Morrow one hit, two RBIs; Lamb one hit, one run; Donaldson, one hit, one run, one RBI; and Rico, one hit, one run, one RBI.
Maci Kirkland pitched  the complete game in four innings allowing two runs on one hit with six strikeouts.
The Lady Green Wave face Kirk at home on Tuesday, September 6 in their next game.
