Lady Tigers participate in Pontotoc tournament

By Ashley Crutcher The South Panola Volleyball team traveled to Pontotoc Saturday, August 27 where the Lady Tigers fought in three close matchups against Ripley, Water Valley and Pontotoc. South Panola cut it close in each match and played the best two of three sets. In their first matchup against Ripley, the Lady Tigers lost the first two sets, 25-21 and 25-22. In their second game, the Lady Tigers battled Water Valley and were just shy of the win as Water Valley took the first two sets 25-20 and 28-26. The Lady Tigers struggled in their final game against Ponotoc and fell in the first two sets 25-19 and 25-21. The Lady Tigers had one of the longest volleys during the Pontotoc game, in which the ball was passed over the net 11 times before the point went to Pontotoc. “Our team is progressing with their skills weekly. I’m extremely pleased with the team’s progression and hard work,” said assistant coach Lisa Lewis. The Lady Tigers faced New Albany last Thursday afternoon and suffered a loss as New Albany took the first three sets. The Lady Tigers were unable to rally any points to match New Albany’s 25 points for each set. The Lady Tigers rallied 10 points in the first set, 14 in the second and 16 in the third. The Lady Tigers will travel to Hernando tonight for district action against the Hernando Lady Tigers. The Tigers’ junior varsity teams will play at 5 p.m. with the varsity matchup to follow at 6 p.m.
