ND crushes West Memphis

North Delta traveled to West Memphis Christian School for the first football game of the season Friday and walked away with a 37-12 victory.
The Green Wave attack was as good as advertised, but it did not start in the first quarter.  As North Delta’s Coach Brandon Ciaramitaro predicted, the game started off sloppy on both sides for both teams.
That is expected with it being the first game.  If it were not for a Black Knight high snap that rolled out of the end zone for a safety, the first quarter would have been scoreless.  With the error, the score stood 2-0 North Delta when the horn blew.
The scoring for North Delta opened up after Will Kidder spun around a defender in the backfield then proceeded to hit John Haga Lewis on the run for a 45-yard flick to get the first earned score on the board.
With it being 9-2 now after the Hudson Parnell extra point, the Green Wave defense continued to frustrate the Black Knight offense.
They limited the big plays, and West Memphis Christian could not sustain a drive.  The North Delta offense started with good field position two drives later to turn good defense into great offense.
The Green Wave started on the enemy’s 30-yard line. It took one play to punch it in.
Kidder pitched the ball to Lewis on a perfectly executed option play for a 30-yard run to bring the score to 16-0 at the end of the half.
North Delta pulled away in the third quarter by out scoring West Memphis 21-6, scoring on three out of the four drives given to them.
The first touchdown was on an 11-yard run from Jones Montgomery after being set up by a Kidder 13-yard scramble. What sealed the drive was a 21-yard pass to Luke Daniels on a doubtful 3rd and 18.
The defense gave up a score, but the offense answered right back with a 43-yard catch by Tyler Holland and a short touchdown run from Kidder to top it off. The Green Wave added salt to the wound with another Kidder touchdown run after a long pass play.
The Black Knight secondary could not keep up with the “efficient” passing attack of North Delta. Big pass after big pass was the story of the third quarter as the quarter ended at 37-6 Green Wave.
The young guns got playing time in the fourth quarter as the second team took most of the reps for North Delta.  They earned quality experience as West Memphis only scored once while the offense melted away the clock with safe running plays.
The final whistle blew, and North Delta had their first win of the 2016 season.
The Green Wave offense had a total of 395 yards. Kidder racked up 240 passing yards and 40 rushing yards to lead the Wave. Lewis followed up with 66 rushing and 58 receiving to lead all playmakers. Tyler Holland also had a quality night with 66 rushing yards. Kaleb Joyner was running well but left early in the second quarter with a minor injury.
North Delta looks to face rival Magnolia Heights this Friday night at home with a game time of 7 p.m.  Magnolia Heights beat Lee Academy, so both teams will be looking for win number two.
