South Panola head coach Lance Pogue has had to fill coaching positions vacated by resignations since last season.
Offensive coordinator Trey Dickerson left after last season while Chuck Darbonne and Danny Roberson left at the end of the school year.
He has hired M. D. Jennings and Jamie Everett who came on staff to go through spring training.
Jennings, from Calhoun City, had a career in the NFL playing for the Green Bay Packers and the Chicago Bears.
Everett, originally from McComb, attended Delta State University. He played with former Tiger championship quarterback Josh Bright, who went on to lead Delta State to a national championship.
Since then Everett has coached community college and other high schools including Madison Central and Biloxi.
Pogue most recently hired Lee Woolridge to start today, but that decision was rescinded following a social media furor over Woolridge’s ownership of a message board website catering to Mississippi State athletics, elitedawgs.com.
Ole Miss fans contacted The Panolian Wednesday using derogatory terms about Woolridge who said “vile and hateful comments,” another fan said.
Another Ole Miss fan posted this is not an issue of a “rival school fan base.”
Pogue decided to rescind the offer of employment as he felt “this was an issue that was taking away from our program and our kids.”
Pogue denied there was anything illegal in Woolridge’s background concerning abuse of any students or players under his tutelage that would bring about this outrage over the hire of an assistant coach. There were just words he writes in a social media platform.
“I am not into social media so I am not familiar about any of this,” Pogue said. “I guess I need to become familiar.”
