The nine and ten year old Batesville Eclipse won runner up in this weekend’s Batesville Bash Tournament. They won four games before losing to Saltillo in the Championship game.
Eclipse 11, Germantown 5
The Eclipse tore Germantown apart in the first two innings with their aggressive baserunning.  They took advantage of their opponent’s mistakes resulting in 10 runs.
Each player got on base and scored at least once in the game. Paizlee Woods and Gracie Harbour each scored twice.  Kori Cox and Madison Setchfield earned the team’s two RBI’s (runs batted in).
Eclipse 8, Senatobia  2
Batesville had a tougher time crossing the plate in the second pool game but pulled away in the third inning.
With the score at 3-1 in the third inning, Woods led off with an inside the park homerun.
Runs were needed, and Jolie Avery, Abby White, Presley Callihan and Setchfield drove in RBI’s to go along with one run as a gift from the pitcher.
Harbour kept Senatobia to only one more run in the bottom half of the inning, and the Eclipse came away with an 8-2 victory.
Eclipse 12, Lady Pirates 1
The team had a chance to flex muscles in the third and final pool game before the elimination round began.
They did just that as they tallied 12 runs to only one for the Lady Pirates.  Abbie Johnson “flexed” her leg muscles with an inside the park homerun in the first inning.
Five runs came across home plate in the first inning with Cox also hitting an inside the park homerun to finish it off.
Setchfield took care of business on the mound while the Eclipse cruised on offense to a 12-1 victory.
With Sunday arriving, so did the elimination round. It was payoff time.
Batesville Eclipse was matched up with the Southaven Slammers.  With each team screaming cheers at the top of their lungs, the focus and intensity increased.  One loss and you go home.
Southaven jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first, but  Batesville answered with four and three runs in the first two innings.
Southaven would only score one more run compared to three from the Eclipse.  The Eclipse were headed to the finals after winning 10-4.
“Are you fired up? Yeah! I can’t hear you! Yes you can!” became louder and louder with each win, but the bats faultered in the championship game leaving the Eclipse with the runner up trophy.
