Ellis brings home five more gold medals from Senior Olympics

By Myra Bean
Ken Ellis, 71, recently competed in the Mississippi Senior Olympics held near the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
Due to construction in the area, the Olympics were held at both West Harrison and Gulfport High Schools.
Ellis brought home five more gold medals to add to his impressive menagerie of accomplishments over the years. The 2010 Hall of Fame inductee won gold in the shot put, discus, 50-, 100- and 200-meter runs over the two-day period.
He competed in the 70-74-year-old age category.
In addition to Mississippi, there were athletes from Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Texas, Florida and Georgia who were qualifying for the national senior Olympics.
The World Police and Fire Games will be held in Canada later this year. Ellis usually participates and is waiting for information about other upcoming meets.
