Stolen car not actually stolen; family member had taken it

The Panola County Sheriff’s Department investigated four reports of grand larceny on May 19 resulting in over $10,000 in property loss for the Panola County residents.
Deputy Jeremy Hailey responded to Ferrel Road at 5:50 a.m. and spoke to the resident who stated that a gold Mercury Grand Marquis was stolen from his front yard.
According to the report, the resident used the vehicle the day before and parked it in his back yard around 6:30 p.m. The resident also stated that a pair of gold clubs, valued at $2,000, were in the vehicle.
After further investigation, a family member had taken the vehicle. The resident and family member both have a title to the vehicle.
Lieutenant Willie Harris responded to call of burglary at 2:30 p.m. Macedonia Road resident reported he noticed his front door open as well as items missing from the home. According to the report, the resident was missing two TVs, a laptop, tablet, .38 revolver and medication.
At approximately 4:38 p.m. Deputy George Renfroe spoke to a Pumping Station Road, Crenshaw resident who reported that someone broke into her home and stole a Remington .22 rifle, 30” Sanyo HD TV, 20” Sanyo TV, RCA Tablet, Shop Vac, medicine bag, gold wedding ring and a wallet.
A Woodruff Road resident reported another burglary to Deputy Josh Griffin on May 19. The resident reported that his 16’ aluminum boat was missing. The resident stated that the boat was parked under a shed and also stated that there was a lock on the hitch. According to the report, the boat was taken along with a 25 Evinrude out board motor and two trolling motors on a black trailer.
These reports are under further investigation by the Panola County Sheriff’s Office and are among 30 calls for service from May 13-19.
May 13
• Investigator Terry Smith responded to Shiloh Road in response to an individual wanting to pick up a Chevy El Camino that belonged to his sister, who was recently killed on Highway 35 South. The vehicle was with her boyfriend, who agreed to let the individual take the vehicle. According to the report, there was a dispute about the tires and Investigator Smith advised that they could work that out in court if they chose.
• Elzey Road, Sardis resident reported to Deputy John Still that he located his wifi internet box that was stolen on June 8, 2015. According to the report, the resident thought the box was lost until a Cspire employee informed him that someone was using the box. The resident had the wifi turned off. The suspect stated to a family member that his wifi quit working. A witness confronted the suspect, who admitted to having stolen the box. The suspect returned the box.
May 15
• Whitten Road, Courtland resident reported to Tim Campbell that he noticed that his grandson’s xbox and a jar of change was missing from his home. There was no damage and no other items were missing.
• Deputy Darryl House took a report of phone harassment from a Seven Road resident who stated that the suspect has sent over 44 text messages to his phone and he wants him to stop.
May 16
• Pund Road resident reported that her brother was causing a disturbance at her home and threatened to harm himself. Upon arrival the resident told Investigator Danny Beavers that her brother left in a black Ford truck and appeared to be high on meth. The suspect was pulled over on Highway 322 and stated that he was upset over a fight with his girlfriend.
According to the report, the suspect admitted that he was high on meth. Investigator Beavers called for backup. Narcotics officers Bill Magee and Tyler Mills arrived and conducted a search and found what appeared to be drug paraphernalia and two needles containing an unknown substance.
The suspect was transported to the Panola County Sheriff’s office and charged with driving with a suspended license.
• Deputy Harold Lewis responded to Belmont Apartments, Sardis where a resident reported the mother of his children came to the residence with two big knives and asked him to come downstairs. According to the report, after refusing her, she stabbed all four tires on his Toyota.
May 17
• Johnson Street resident reported to Deputy Griffin that her two year old daughter had been molested. According to the report, the two year old stated that a family friend inserted his finger into her bottom. The mother stated that the incident must have occurred two months ago when she was giving the little girl a bath. The suspect was sitting in the bathroom with them. According to the report, the mother walked out of the bathroom to get her daughter a towel. The resident stated that her daughter began acting strange when she returned, but she thought nothing of it.
The resident’s mother told her later that she walked by the bathroom and noticed the suspect jerking his hands away from the two year old. Investigator Bryan Arnold is continuing the investigation.
• Ballentine road, Sardis resident reported to Investigator Arnold that she purchased some Lancome Tresor cologne from the Fragrance Shop on April 20. According to UPS, the package was delivered on April 26 and left in the garage. According to the report, the resident has had multiple items stolen from her property and her house was recently burglarized.
• Investigator Beavers took a missing persons report from a Little Rock resident who reported that her two daughters, ages two and four, were with their father who left his Rockhill Road, Sardis residence on May 14 heading to her home in Little Rock. The mother reported that she hasn’t heard from them since. According to the report, the father’s phone has been turned off and his facebook and Instagram pages have been deactivated. All subjects have been entered into the National Crime Information Center. They were later located unharmed.
May 18
• Investigator Arnold was contacted by an RN with North MS Medical Center in Tupelo who reported to have a patient stating she was raped in Panola County.
The victim stated that she went fishing with her boyfriend’s uncle. She stated that she got into the back of his van to take a nap and awoke to him molesting her.
The victim stated that the suspect continued to get her to have sex with him but she refused. The victim stated that she is afraid of the suspect and his family.
• Pope Crowder Road, Pope resident reported to investigator Arnold that his 16’ red bumper pull horse trailer was stolen. The incident is under further investigation.
• Deputy Lewis responded to a simple assault call on Greenhill Road, Sardis, where the resident stated that her live in boyfriend came home and became angry when she didn’t hear him knocking on the door.
According to the report, the suspect punched the resident in the face and pushed her to the floor before leaving. The suspect was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, driving with a suspended license and no insurance.
• Lieutenant Harris investigated a vehicle fire on Dummyline Road. One witness stated that she noticed smoke coming from the vehicle. A few moments later when the witness walked back outside the car went up in flames.
• Deputy Mark Allen responded to a family disturbance on Patterson Lane where family members were arguing with each other in the front yard. Deputy Allen spoke to the resident who stated that she wanted her daughter off of her property. Deputy Allen asked the daughter and her husband to leave.
• Highway 6 West resident reported to Deputy Rob Roberson that someone was coming onto the lot used to store LP gas bottles. The owner noticed a spot on the chain link fence surrounding the property where it appeared as if someon had pulled down the fence to allow someone to gain access to the lot. The owner could not locate anything missing but was concerned with someone breaking in with the amount of gas on the property.
• Highway 51, Pope resident reported to Deputy George Renfroe that a suspect ran a gold Ford Focus through his fence, across the pasture and into the edge of the pond. According to the report, the suspect exited the vehicle leaving it in gear allowing it to break through the fence and run into the pond.
• Highway 35 South, Sardis resident reported to Investigator Beavers that her boyfriend’s cousin has been slandering her name for about five months.
According to the report, the resident doesn’t want anyone to go to jail, she just wants the harassment to stop. Another report was filed by the resident’s mother who stated that her daughter’s ex-boyfriend is sending nasty text messages to her phone. Investigator Beavers stated that the suspect would be notified and asked not to send anymore messages to the resident.
May 19
• Investigator Arnold spoke with a First Security Bank Agent who was looking into some suspicious activity. During her investigation she was led to believe that two elders were being exploited by their son.
According to the report, the son would take out loans in his parents’ name and have the money deposited into their accounts. The son would then get them to withdraw the money from their account and leaving them to pay off the loan. The incident is under further investigation.
• Highway 310 East, Como resident reported to Lieutenant Kelvin Taylor that an individual continuously came to his store after being told not to come back until he paid his bill at the store. According to the report, the suspect became upset and threatened to shoot the store owner.
• Highway 6 West resident reported to Lieutenant Harris that someone tore down his mailbox.
