Defendant denies using stolen credit card; found guilty one of 45 calls to sheriff’s department

Judge Bill McKenzie referred defendants to the grand jury during Batesville Municipal Court Wednesday.
Eli Holmes, 101 Erica Lane, Wayne, Pa., was bound over to the grand jury for felony possession of controlled substance and possession of marijuana.
Jerry A. Harris, 132 Martinez St., Batesville, was bound over to the grand jury for simple possession of controlled substance and felony firearm.
Gregdrecus Leland, 204 Everette St., Batesville, had a felony aggravated assault case continued after he told the judge he was being represented by Stan Little.
Leland refused to sign his waiver.
Leland allegedly shot Sammy Barksdale in the leg at Patton Lane Park on April 1.
After a case set for trial, Lynell A. Stamps, 1199 Tom Cooper Road, Batesville was found guilty of false pretenses by using affiant, Heather Cox’s credit card at several local businesses.
Mrs. Cox said there were charges also made in Oxford.
She said she believed she dropped her card at Love’s on January 30 and realized it was missing the next day.
Detective Justin Maples had video footage along with receipts and bank records showing Stamps using the card and signing the receipts.
Stamps denied using the card despite evidence and video footage.
The judge asked Mrs. Cox about the bank charges.
“Yessir, I had to pay all of the charges. I am recently widowed and I have three kids,” she said.
Stamps was fined $368 along with $476 in restitution. His appeal bond was set at $1,000.
Harold McGlothian, 819 Jones St., Crenshaw, paid fines of $225 in full prior to court for public drunk.
Marcelius G. Scott, 2643 Chapeltown Rd., Courtland, entered a guilty plea to trespassing on April 2 at Job Corps. He was fined $417 and told not to go back.
Taylor A. Mickens, 527 Freeman Ave., Lake City, S.C., was fined $1,294 for false information and disorderly conduct-failure to comply.
Dorothy Ann Robertson, 105 E Compress Rd., Como, told the judge she wanted a lawyer for a shoplifting charge at Piggly Wiggly.
“Come back next week,” the judge said.
Tevis Flowers, 8492 Hwy. 35 South, Batesville, entered the city’s work release program for 40 days in lieu of paying $1,167 in old fines due since May 2015 and new fines of $1,146 for shoplifting at Family Dollar on March 30.
Paul E. Roper, 802 Sardis Lake Dr., Sardis, entered a not guilty plea to shoplifting after he came to court late.
A trial was set for May 18.
“Be on time the next time you come to this court,” the judge said.
Shanique Lee, 203 Vaughn, Batesville, paid in full a cash fine of $562 for contempt of court-old fines due since August 2015. She had new fines of $1,163 for loud music, driving while license suspended and no proof of insurance.
George L. Todd Jr., 128 Paton Lane, Batesville, had a malicious mischief charge dismissed after the affiant, Cortney Leland failed to appear to prosecute.
He also had old fines of $1,586 due since December 2015. The fines are due or he will spend 60 days in jail.
Timothy W. Holloway, 148 Windover Dr., Batesville, was sentenced to 90 days in jail after failing to pay old fines of $1,474 in full.
“You’ve had over a year to pay it. You can get out of jail  if you pay the fines. Pay it or serve it,” McKenzie said.
Timothy Bledsoe, 103 Sunrise Cove, Batesville, returned for sentencing after he was found guilty of domestic violence-three counts.
Bledsoe didn’t have his lawyer with him but said he was being represented by Joe Wilson.
The judge continued the case.
Doris M. Smith, 840 Hwy. 30 East, Oxford, had a case dismissed after a short trial for a speeding citation.
Jamie L. Jones, 210 Garson St., Batesville, was found guilty in his abscence for open container, possession of paraphernalia and careless driving. He was fined $875.
Alfred Hankins, 5023 Hwy. 35 South, Enid, was found guilty of vandalism by cutting the female affiant’s tires at America’s Best Value Inn on February 19.
After testimony the judge found enough circumstantial evidence to rule he was guilty and fine him $347 along with restitution fees of $226.
Geraud D. Shegog King, 119 Field St., Batesville, had a domestic violence-simple assault case continued.
He’s being represented by attorney David Walker.
