BJH Tigers finish season with win over Lafayette

Batesville Junior High completed a successful baseball season with a 9-0 shutout of Lafayette County Saturday night.
The Tigers (11-5) earned the split after dropping the first game of the doubleheader 3-2 to the Commodores.
Dawson Griffin and Denver Brown combined for the shutout as each hurler tossed two innings. Griffin struck out three with one walk and one hit while Brown fanned two batters and also walked one.
John Culp led the Tigers at the plate with a single and double while driving in three runs.
Wes Morgan collected two singles and one RBI with Griffin, Bowen Williams, Gage Heath, Brown, Gunner Ward and Dre Moore all registering singles.
Ward singled and drove in the only Batesville runs in the opening  game. Brown doubled while Griffin, Wes Morgan and Culp collected singles.
Caleb White was tagged with the loss after giving up three runs on three hits and fanning three in three innings of work.
Williams struck out one batter in a scoreless fourth inning.
Team individual awards were handed out afterwards, Heath was named offensive Most Valuable Player with a .470 batting average. Dawson Griffin garnered the defensive MVP award.
The Pitching Award went to Bowen Williams with a 1.34 Earned Run Average.
Caleb White took home the Tiger and Scholar Athlete Award with a 98.1 GPA. Wes Morgan received the Hustle Award.
