The North Delta baseball team traveled to Lee Academy in Clarksdale Thursday night for a district doubleheader. North Delta won both, 10-7 and 13-1, to bring their District record to 3-6.
The first game was a pitcher’s duel for awhile until the bats came alive in the fifth inning. Bailey Ross started on the mound for the Green Wave and kept the Colts off of the board for most of the game.
North Delta got a two run lead in the first with Tyler Holland getting on with a double and being batted in by Hunter Baker’s single. The other run resulted from another RBI single. This time it was Lige Simmerman bringing Baker in.
The teams remained scoreless for three innings before Lee Academy finally found success and tallied on two runs in the fifth. With the game tied, the Green Wave answered with five runs of their own.
It started with Holland (single) again who was followed up with two singles from Baker and Ethan Calvert to load the bases. Simmerman (1), Cole Devazier (2), Luke Noah (1), and Jones Montgomery (1) then hit RBI’s to bring in the first three batters plus Zach Adams and Devazier to take a 7-2 lead.
Lee Academy brought three more runs home the next inning but saw North Delta score two more. Calvert scored after a fielder’s choice and an error in right field.
Simmerman’s hit, that resulted in an error, ended up being costly for the Colts as Zach Adams brought him home with a double to the right center gap to end the inning 9-5.
Lee Academy would add two more runs after North Delta scored one in the last inning to bring the final score to 10-7.
Bailey Ross pitched the complete game and earned the win with two strikeouts and nine hits given up while allowing two earned runs and no walks.
Leading the Green Wave bats were Holland and Baker who both got three hits and one RBI each. Simmerman followed closely behind with two hits and two RBI’s.
Game two of the double header resulted in a North Delta 13-1 victory.
Hayden Hankins started on the mound for the Green Wave. He seemed to breeze through the lineup with ease as he only gave up one run in the sixth inning. It was unearned.
Hankins helped himself out in the first with an RBI single to right to score Bailey Ross after he singled to start the game.
The offense continued to back him up in the second with another run from Jones Montgomery’s RBI single to score Luke Noah.
The fourth inning started with three runs being added on by North Delta. Montgomery got another RBI and scored from Ross’s infield single. Ross then scored from a Hankins groundout.
With the score 5-0 going into the sixth inning, North Delta added eight runs in an onslaught of an inning.
The eight runs were scored on five hits, four walks, one error, and four RBI’s.
Lee Academy would need four runs to keep the game going but could only get one as the Green Wave took home another victory.
Hankins pitched a gem with seven strikeouts thrown, only two hits given up, and one walk with no earned runs.
Lige Simmerman could not be kept off of the bases with four singles to finish 4 for 5 in the game and ended 6 for 9 on the day.
Montgomery also had a good day with three hits and three RBIs in the game. Ross, Adams, and Noah followed them with two hits each.
