Victim shot Friday not cooperating

By John Howell
Batesville police are seeking an unknown suspect responsible for shooting a man at Patton Lane Park late Friday night.
The police department got its first report of the shooting at 11:15 p.m. from the Merit Health Batesville Emergency Room where bystanders carried the victim with a gunshot wound to his lower right leg.
“Hospital staff advised that both bones in (victim’s) lower leg were broken and Hospital Wings (sic) was en route to fly him to the Med in Memphis,” patrolman Justin Johnson’s report states.
Detective captain George Williford said the 37-year-old victim had been “uncooperative.” Officers were expected to interview him at the regional medical center on Monday, deputy police chief Jimmy McCloud said.
The multiple gunshots fired in the incident forced a family on nearby Arizona Street to duck for cover, according to a report by patrolman J. P. Wallace. A man, woman and child had arrived at a home there in a vehicle when “someone began to shoot,” according to the report. At least two shots struck the right side of the vehicle.
“They did not see who was shooting,” Wallace’s report states.
Another Arizona Street vehicle owner discovered gunshot damage to her vehicle the following morning. It had been parked at her residence overnight, and when she went outside around 10:30 a.m. she discovered the front driver and passenger windows had been shot out.
