Panola County Emergency Management Coordinator Daniel Cole reported to supervisors Monday that 20 roads were under water with 11 of those still closed.
“Thirty-five homes took on some type of water,” he said, noting the figure only included residences and not outbuildings, ag-buildings, sheds, etc.
Panola County also helped distribute bags used for sand-bagging, as many as 30,000, to Coahoma, Quitman, Grenada and Tallahatchie.
Approximately 2,500 sandbags were distributed to Panola homeowners Cole said.
Supervisors last week declared a state of emergency for Panola County as did Governor Phil Bryant for the state.
Cole urged homeowners with flood damage to document the damage and begin clean up and not to wait on a visit from MEMA or FEMA officials.
Only the storage capacity at Arkabutla Reservoir was pushed near its crest capacity by the late week low pressure system that trained thunderstorms over much of Louisiana, Arkansas and Mississippi.
Corps of Engineer calculations placed Arkabutla Reservoir at 83.5 percent full on Monday. Sardis, Enid and Grenada reservoirs all remained below 25 percent full, according the Corps web site.
National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration rainfall totals for the seven days ending March 14 were greatest in southwest to northeast bands of rainfall with heaviest amounts recorded in the extreme northwest corner of the county over Crenshaw and into the Coldwater River watershed upstream from Arkabutla Dam.
NOAA record between 10 and 15 inches of rainfall in that band.
Between eight and 10 inches of rainfall were recorded in the Longtown/Pleasant Grove area and Como during that seven day period.
Six to eight inches were record in the Batesville/Sardis areas, five to six inches further east in Panola County, with totals dimishing further east into Lafayette and other counties where runoff contributes to the Tallahatchie, Yocona and Yalobusha rivers upstream from Sardis, Enid and Grenada reservoirs.
