One man killed, one injured in Highway 6 wreck Sunday

By Rupert Howell
An early morning wreck Sunday at the Medical Center Drive intersection with Highway 6/278 near Walmart claimed the life of one and injured another according to Batesville Assistant Police Chief Jimmy McCloud.
Coroner Gracie Grant-Gullege confirmed that Samuel Wayne “Sam” Tidwell, 32, was pronounced dead at the scene.
McCloud said Monday that an accident report indicated Tidwell was headed west on 6/278 when his vehicle crossed over into the east-bound lane at the intersection hitting another vehicle head-on.
The assistant chief said he understood the driver of the other vehicle sustained non-life threatening injuries.
Tidwell was employed as a chef at Bacchus on The Square in Oxford and had served in the Mississippi National Guard completing a tour in Iraq. He is the son of Stephen and Rolanda Tidwell of the Mt. Olivet Community. Services will be held Wednesday at Wells Funeral Home. See page A3 for complete obituary.
