Mary Allen
COURTLAND–-Mary Allen, 80, died Thursday, January 14, 2016, at Methodist Hospital in Olive Branch.

Services were held Saturday at Wells Funeral Home. Burial was in Magnolia Cemetery. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Allen, born February 22, 1935 to the late William Garfield Finn and May Thomas Finn in Houston, was a member of the Church of Christ and a retired nurse.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Allen and two children, Pam Allen James and Keith Allen and one grandchild, Christopher Michael James.

Survivors include: two daughters, Phyllis Allen of Courtland and Vickey Gray of Pontotoc; one sister Helen F. Standard of Batesville; one brother, Bobby J. Finn of Crenshaw, three grandchildren and one great grandchild.

William Boyce “Slick” Crowell Sr.
SARDIS––William Boyce “Slick” Crowell Sr., 86, died Thursday, January 14, 2016, at Baptist East in Memphis.

Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Sardis Lake Baptist Church. Visitation will be held from noon until service time at the church. Rev. Kevin Crofford will officiate. Burial will be held in Sardis Lake Baptist Church Cemetery. The Panola Lodge No. 66 will hold the Masonic Service and are active pallbearers. Dickins Funeral Home has charge.

Crowell, born Aug. 39, 1929, in Hohenwald, Texas, to the late Jim Crowell and Ollie Pollock Crowell, was a member of Sardis Lake Baptist Church and a veteran of the United States Army serving in the Korean Conflict. He received the Korean Medal, Bronze Star and Good Conduct Medal. He was a Tennessee 32nd Degree Mason, a member of Scottish Rite, York Rite and a member of The Batesville Shriners.

Survivors include: his wife of 26 years, Annette Jones Crowell of Sardis; three sons, Boyce Crowell Jr. and his wife, Temple of Courtland, Dale Crowell and his wife, Brenda of Batesville, Gary Crowell and his wife, Janet of Sardis; two step-sons, Jeffrey Smith and his wife, Carol of Como and Paul Smith of Pope; one step-daughter, Janet Rast of Germantown, Tenn.; two sisters, Roxie Davis of Hohenwald and Florence Ramirez of Brownstown, Mich.; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Miriam Harris

Miriam Elsie DuBard Harris passed away on Friday, January 15, 2016 at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, MS at the age of 87.

Miriam was born near Louisville, MS in the High Point Community on October 20, 1928 to the late John Allen and Ethel Johnson DuBard. She graduated from Louisville High School and attended East Central Junior College. She married Norman Harris, the love of her life, on December 26, 1947. Mrs. Harris was a homemaker and worked several years as a manager for the Mississippi Employment and Job Services.

Miriam was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Mary Caine Gibbs and Dorothy White. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Norman Harris of Madison; her children, Norma Susan Harris Wingert of Batesville and William Gregory Harris of Madison; grandchildren, Kelli Wingert Wallace of Cleveland and Kristopher “Kit” Wingert (Heather) of Hernando; great grandchildren, Bela Wallace, Jadyn Wingert, and Owen Harris Wingert; and siblings, Bernice Craig of Clinton, formerly of Oxford, Gail Jabour of Clinton, and John DuBard of Tallahassee, FL.

Visitation for Miriam will be held Sunday, January 17, 2016 from 3:00 to 5:00 pm at Parkway Funeral Home in Ridgeland. Funeral services will be held Monday, January 18, 2016 at 11:00 am, with visitation from 9:30 to 11:00 am prior to the service, also at Parkway Funeral Home.

The family would like to extend a thank you to the staff at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, Miriam’s special friend, Cora Love, and her longtime physician, Dr. Rebekah Moulder.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Ridgecrest Baptist Church or to the Madison Animal Rescue Kennel.
