James Arthur Harris

COMO–– James Arthur Harris, 70, died Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at Golden Living Nursing Home.
Services were held Saturday, January 9 at Cistern Hill M.B. Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Pate-Jones Funeral Home had charge.
Harris was a member of Cistern Hill M.B. Church
Survivors include: two sons, James Arthur Harris, Jr. and Allen Keith Harris, both of Toledo, Ohio; his mother, Bonnie Hobson Strickland and stepfather, Robert Lee Strickland of Como; father Clifton Harris of Missouri; two sisters, Bonnie Virginia Britten of Toledo and Gwendolyn Hailey of Southaven; four brothers, Henry Strickland and Charles Strickland, both of Toledo, Thomas Earl Strickland and Allen Keith Strickland, both of Como; and stepbrother, Ernest Strickland of Fulton, Ken.

Harold Wayne Johnson

BATESVILLE––Harold Wayne Johnson, 80, died Saturday, January 9, 2016, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford.
The Johnson family will hold a memorial service at a later date. Wells Funeral Home has charge.
Johnson, was born to Arthur Raymond and Bertha Lee Dillard Johnson on January 26, 1935, in Texas. He served during the Vietnam War as a Gunnery Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps. He was a member of Mt. Olivet Methodist Church and a retired Truck Driver and Security Officer.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lena Faye Johnson and son, Cary Johnson.
Survivors include: two daughters, Loriann Johnson of Knoxville, Tenn., Susan Anderson of Atlanta, Ga.; two sons, Brett Johnson of Hernando, Jeffery W. Johnson of Water Valley; one sister Wanda Roberts of Taylor, Texas; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

SLEDGE––Walter Gene Simmerman, 69, died Tuesday, December 29, 2015.
Graveside services were held Wednesday, January 6, at Lindsay-Strathmore Public Cemetery in Porterville, Calif.
Simmerman, born to the late Charlie and Hattie Simmerman on October 12, 1946 in Sledge, worked in farming around Sledge. He worked at the Sardis Luggage Factory in Sardis. He finished high school and went back to work at the luggage factory where he worked until a car accident left him paralyzed from the shoulders down in April of 1968.
In November of 1969, Gene and his family moved to California so he could receive specialized therapy. The physical therapy restored some mobility..
Simmerman earned a bachelor’s degree from  Porterville College, and went to work at Porterville Development Center where he worked for almost 20 years before health problems caused him to retire in 1998.
Survivors include: two brothers Henry Simmerman and John Simmerman; and one sister Louise Clark.
