Pigskin Picks competition heats up

Commentary by Myra Bean
It is halfway through the Pigskin Picks year. The local businesses who sponsor the football contest on Tuesday gets their shot at picking winners each week.
They are combined with members of The Panolian sports staff to see who is the best picker for 16 weeks.
Martha Avant of Jeremiah’s Furniture has held the top spot for most of the eight weeks. She was down a couple of times. Tom Womble of Bailey and Womble has been pushing hard to tie for top position.
“I should re-take the lead this week after a couple of lackluster weeks,” Womble wrote.
Last week he was about four points of taking over with the tiebreaker making a difference.
Panolian sales lady Michelle Buckner has a T-shirt all made up for the winner at the end of the contest.
So all of this is making the contest fun to be a part of this year.
Brad Greer thinks he can intimidate everyone into supporting LSU over Florida, especially Ike House.
Brad and I had a bet in the LSU/MSU game. I lost, barely. I still owe him a Dr. Pepper. He thinks he is going to bully me into singing that stupid LSU fight song or something. I don’t even know if Miss. State has a fight song. There is no way I will sing one for a hated SEC rival like them.
One day I may make good on my bet. He did buy my diet coke a couple of years ago when State beat LSU.
Randy Boren of Shelter is keeping his goal in tact to stay on the top row. Though secretly he is trying to move closer to the top spot. Don’t tell him I told you.
The others are relatively quiet on the bragging front, but keep plugging away each week.
We do appreciate all of our businesses for sponsoring the football contest. Without them it would not be possible.
Football Contest
The football contest ballots are printed in the Tuesday edition of The Panolian and the Wednesday Panolian ADvantage.
Our highest number for entries this year has been 82. In year’s past we have had 90 once or twice. There are plenty of football weeks left so anyone can get involved.
