Police investigate weekend shooting

By Rupert Howell
A shooting and an auto theft were both recorded in BPD incidents reports of August 16 at separate locations.

Lieutenant John Miller’s report stated that BPD was summoned to Helmes Car Wash on Panola Ave where a shooting was reported but neither victim or suspect was located upon their arrival.

“A clerk at the adjacent Panola First Stop stated he was told about the incident, but did not witness anything,” according to Miller’s report.

Another witness stated he heard a shot from a nearby residence. Meanwhile several spatters of blood were located on the ground, in and around the car wash stalls the report stated.

While officers were still on the scene, Miller was notified that a gunshot victim had arrived at Merit Health ER. The victim was found to have a gunshot wound in the left arm, according to the report which had all other details blacked out.

Officer Richard Stonestreet’s report of a motor vehicle theft also on August 16 stated the  vehicle was parked across from Dunlap and Kyle on Eureka Street at 10:30 Saturday night. When the owner returned at 1 a.m. Sunday, the white 1988 Chevrolet Scottsdale was gone.

“When on the scene, I noted there was broken glass on the ground where the vehicle was parked,” Stonestreet’s report stated.

The value of the vehicle was estimated at $5,000 according to the report.
