First responders were initially dispatched to Pollard Street in the Green Acres Subdivision.
The driver of a pickup crashed into a guard rail and a utility pole on College at its intersection with Atwell near Baker Street. The collision snapped the utility pole which was held up by strung wires following the collision.
The driver of the pickup was apparently uninjured and declined treatment by Med Stat personnel at the scene. Tallahatchie Valley Electric Power Association personnel about 3 p.m. were making arrangements to replace the pole.
The driver was ticketed for no driver’s license and no insurance, Deputy Police Chief Don Province said.
Residents served by the electrical lines along the pole were without power for almost four hours during repairs.
“We had to assemble a full construction crew due to the complexity of the hardware on the pole, Tallahatchie Valley Electric Power Association CEO Brad Robison said. “Plus, they had to beat and chip out by hand an area on the concrete sidewalk to get the auger in to set the pole.”
