Woman killed in ATV accident near Pope

By Rupert Howell
One person was killed and at least one other injured Sunday night in an ATV (all terrain vehicle) accident that occurred at Hentz Road and Highway 51 near Pope.

No official word of the wreck was available at press time as a spokesman for Mississippi Highway Patrol said Monday a report had yet to be filed as officers working the accident were up late into the evening.

Panola County Coroner Gracie Grant-Gulledge confirmed Monday morning that Joy Michelle Henry of Oxford was killed during the accident. Another person reportedly involved in the crash was listed in Panola County’s Jail log with “hold” listed next to the name.

A family member of Samuel A. Wray of Courtland reported on Facebook that he was injured but not seriously in the accident. Wray’s name appeared on the Panola County jail’s log with “hold” written beside it, indicating any charges had yet to be filed.

Grant-Gullege also confirmed that Henry’s body had been sent to the state medical examiner’s office for an autopsy.
