Three months ‘til primaries: candidate listing grows

By Rupert Howell
Party primaries are three months away and candidates’ yard and roadside signs are becoming more apparent than May flowers.

Several candidates have chosen to list their names in The Panolian’s Announcement listing that will run three times each week, one in both Tuesday and Friday’s edition of The Panolian and another in The Panolian’s Advantage.

That listing gives the candidate approximately 15,000 pieces of exposure a week with about half of that mailed to local P.O. Boxes and street addresses and the other half distributed in single copy sales at stores and in newspaper stands.

The listing also appears on The Panolian’s online subscriber editions.

Those listing their names thus far in the 2015 listing include: Constable District 2, Democrat Raye Hawkins; Justice Court Judge, Democrats Charlie Baglan, Donnie Shaw, Terry Smith and Mike Wilkie; Sheriff candidate Democrat Mark Whitten; District Two Supervisor Candidates Democrat William Pride Jr. and independent candidate Timothy Holliday; District Three Supervisor candidate Democrat Boyce “Crow” Crowell; District Four Supervisor Candidates Democrat Keith Moore and independent candidate Joe Horton and District Five Supervisor candidate Democrat Cole Flint.

Democrat and Republican primaries will be held Tuesday, August 4 with runoffs, where necessary, scheduled for Tuesday, August 25.

Winner of those primaries will face independent candidates in the Tuesday, November 3 General Election where the candidate with the most votes, a plurality, wins without having a majority which is needed to win a primary election.
