Businesses, offices announce holiday  schedules; garbage service to run Friday

By Rupert Howell
Many local businesses including banks will close early Wednesday afternoon and all day Thursday but be open Friday, the day after Christmas.

State, County and City offices will be closed Thursday and Friday December 25 and 26. The Panolian will be closed Thursday and Friday, but Friday’s issue will be mailed at the usual time.
Those residents whose garbage is usually serviced on Thursday will receive Friday service both December 26 and January 2 according to Jennifer Jackson director of Panola County’s Sanitation Department.

Jackson also asked that residents whose garbage is picked up on Wednesday, Christmas Eve, put their garbage out Tuesday night as sanitation workers are beginning early attempting to have routes complete by 2 p.m. Wednesday.

“My guys only get off Christmas day,” Jackson explained while noting they may begin routes before the usual run time.

Jackson also encouraged rural residents to use containers at Panola County’s Solid Waste Transfer Station at 223 McNeely Road near Courtland at 51 Highway, Mondays through Fridays, for overflow packaging or use containers located at the Panola County Shop in Sardis for boxes and Christmas wrapping that always accompany the Christmas holiday.

Rural and municipal residents alike are welcomed to use recycle containers located in the parking lot at the corner of Thomas Street and Van Voris near Batesville’s downtown square.
A rubbish container is also located nearby for city of Batesville residents while the City of Sardis has a container for rubbish located at the city’s lot on East Lee Street, east of I-55.
