Tigers vie for championship

By Rita Howell
The South Panola High School Tigers are bound for their 15th appearance in a state championship game, travelling Friday to the campus of Mississippi State University where the state’s top teams will be crowned after gridiron battles in Davis Wade Stadium.

The Tigers will take on  South Half champs Oak Grove. Kickoff is 7 p.m. To allow fans plenty of time to get to the game, South Panola District schools will be dismissed early Friday, following the “60 percent day” schedule.

Tickets will be sold at South Panola High School 9-3:30 today through Thursday, and until noon on Friday.

Tickets are $12 in advance, $13 at the gate. Tickets are good for all three games that day.
Meanwhile, plans are being made for two charter buses to transport fans to Starkville.

The cost is $20 per person and does not include the cost of the game ticket, according to Fred Hentz, one of the organizers.

Passengers should come to the Batesville Junior High campus (by the gym). Buses will leave at 4 p.m. Friday.

The deadline to sign up for the bus is Wednesday at 5 p.m.

Call Hentz at 662-654-9252 or Jeannette Pegues at 662-934-2377 to sign up.
