Alice Jirleen Petty Cole
SARDIS––Alice Jirleen Petty Cole, 84, died Tuesday, November 4, 2014, at Sardis Community Nursing Home.

Services were held Thursday at Hosanna Family Worship Center in Pope. Burial was in Friendship East Cemetery in Charleston. Rev. Damon Plummer officiated. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Cole was born January 6, 1930, in Caddo Cap, Ark., to the late John Thomas Petty and Winnie Pearl Mayo Petty.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Laurice Tillman Cole and her son, John Tillman Cole.

Survivors include: one son, Chris Cole of Pope; three sisters, Ailene McDaniel of Holcomb, Alice May King of Greenville and Ruby Dale Buford of Flowood and five grandchildren.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Harmonia M.B. Church in Sardis. Rev. Jimmy Gipson will officiate. Visitation will be held Friday from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. at Henderson Funeral Home. Burial will be in Harmonia Cemetery. Henderson Funeral Home has charge.

Thomas, born June 28, 1933, to the late Alonzo Gipson and Fadell Orr, was a homemaker and a member of Harmonia M.B. Church.

Survivors include: three sons, James Thomas of San Bernadeno, Calif., Curtis Thomas of Como and Charles Thomas of Memphis; four daughters, Dorothy Jean Thomas of Sardis, Dorothy Ann Thomas of Oxford, Gwendolyn Faye Thomas of Oxford and Terry Thomas of Sardis; four brothers, Jimmy Gipson of Sardis, Alonzo Gipson Sr. and Robert Gipson, both of Milwaukee, Wis. and Willie Ed Gipson of Sardis; two sisters, Lillie Wilson of Memphis and Leonia Cooley of Chicago and a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren.
