Two die in separate wrecks this week


Panola County Coroner Gracie Grant-Gulledge said that William Clayton “Pee Wee” Johnson, 82, 233 Pollard Street, Batesville was killed Tuesday morning in a multi-vehicle crash on I-55 south of Pope.

Johnson’s death was the second motor vehicle fatality in Panola County in less than 24 hours.

Marty Sharp, 55, 109 Faith Drive, Batesville was killed Wednesday evening around 8 p.m. in a single-vehicle crash on Brewer Road.

Johnson worked as a bailiff for the Panola County Sheriff’s Dept. When not working, he was fishing and is believed to have been en route to fish Tuesday morning.

Sharp was a musician and cancer survivor who also cared for his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Sharp.
