School trustees approved the dress code during a special meeting Monday when they also approved a proposed budget for the 2014-15 year and changes to the Student Conduct Code and its appeal process.

Assistant Superintendent Charles Beene said after Monday’s meeting that only minor changes were made to the existing dress code, but administrators wanted to, “Put it out there so that  parents are aware before they go out and buy school clothes.”

Beene said changes to the Student Conduct Code were made to align policy better with what is published in the Student Handbook.

Beene also noted that an additional avenue for appeal of expulsions and suspensions has been added to students’ due process policy.

When students are cited for infractions of the student conduct code and expelled, suspended or detained, parents may now appeal to the district superintendent following the district hearing officer’s decision.

If that step isn’t satisfactory, parents may appeal to the district’s Board of Trustees as in the past.
