The football field at South Panola High School’s Dunlap Stadium was defaced by vandals late Saturday, with evidence captured on surveillance video. So far, no arrests have been made.
Batesville Police Det. George Williford confirmed Thursday morning that information had been forthcoming and leads were available, “But we’re still getting our ducks in a row.”
The film showed two trucks driving onto the field between 11:30 p.m. and 1 a.m., cruising in wide circles and leaving black “doughnuts” in the artificial turf.
Batesville Police Det. Paul Shivers said the vandals entered the south end of the field by the field house gates, which apparently were not locked. The trucks came onto the field, left, and then came back for a second trip, Shivers said.
He said once the trucks did their work, a large group of boys and girls showed up to “admire” the destruction.
A reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of those involved in defacing the field.
“People who (have knowledge of the incident but) fail to come forward with information will be prosecuted and charged with accessory after the fact,” Shivers said. “We’re giving them until Monday.”
Shivers said one person has come forward with information.
“Come forward if you do not want to be charged,” Shivers said.
