Letter carriers collect donations for Panola Food Pantry Saturday
On Saturday, May 10, residents across America will be asked to join the U.S. Postal Service and its delivery carriers to combat one of this nation’s growing problems — hunger, by leaving food at their mailboxes. This year is the 22nd anniversary of America’s largest single-day food drive.
Post Offices in Batesville, Courtland, and Sardis are joining 80 other Mississippi Post Offices in the effort. Local donations will go to the Panola Food Pantry, according to postal carrier Terry Townsend of Batesville.
Residents are encouraged to leave non-perishable foods, such as canned soup, canned vegetables, pasta, rice or cereal next to their mailbox prior to the time of regular mail delivery on Saturday.
