Former Mississippi State standout Jemmye Ann Helms has been announced as the new South Panola girls basketball coach, following school board approval Tuesday night.
Helms will replace 12-year outgoing coach, Ralph Stallings, who announced his retirement at the conclusion of the basketball season.
Helms gave up a 13-year coaching career to become an assistant principal at West Point in 2011. After which she head coached at Kosciusko before accepting the position here. She has a 265-100 record as a head coach.
At Mississippi State she was an All-SEC guard and named to the academic All-American team.
She attended high school at East Webster where she was chosen for the Mississippi Association of Coaches North All-Star team. A few years later, she was selected to coach the All-Star team.
While she has put her current home on the market, she plans to be in town next week to meet Superintendent Tim Wilder and will return for tryouts.
