Burdette seeks downed trees for firewood for elderly

By John Howell Sr.
Earl Burdette is looking for downed oak, hickory or ash trees to cut into firewood.

Burdette, who provides firewood for heating to needy citizens, said that his present supply of wood is low.

Burdette has provided the firewood during cold weather for years through his Senior Citizens Relief Fund.

Anyone with wood suitable for firewood can contact Burdette at 662-519-1290.

“I have more people,” Burdette said, who have called for firewood this year. He said that this week’s forecast cold temperatures will greatly reduce the supply of firewood he has on hand already cut.

“When I go to the woods, I take 80 percent of Panola County with me,” Burdette said, referring to equipment donated for his use in supplying the wood. “They’re here with me since they are giving me everything.”

The equipment includes two chainsaws and a wood splitter.

“Two stores are giving me gas,” he added.
