Supervisors earlier this month approved an emergency order allowing Swindoll Construction Company to complete a roof replacement at Batesville Courthouse, adding a change order that included weather proofing around ridge caps not included in the original specifications.
Buckets are not an uncommon sight at the Batesville Courthouse and when the flat portion of the roof was replaced, occupants and officials alike thought the problem was over.
Not so.
The change order included adding covers along caps at the roof’s ridges to seal an erosion problem along walls that was allowing water to enter the building.
During the same meeting Attorney Bill McKenzie advised the board that approximately $48,000 in an old hospital fund had been determined to belong to the City of Batesville and Panola County.
Since the county owned 60 percent of the hospital at the time, approximately $28,000 would be coming to the county.
“That ought to about pay for your roof,” McKenzie advised.
