ND to host Bayou in homecoming action

By Brad Greer

With the regular season at its midway point, the North Delta Green Wave will look to go above .500 on the year as they host Bayou Academy for homecoming tonight set for 7 p.m.

North Delta enters the District 1-AA tilt with a 2-2 overall record and 1-0 in conference play after defeating Kirk 45-27 last Friday. Bayou (1-3; 0-1) is hoping to break a three-game losing streak  with a win over the Green Wave.

The Colts opened the season with a 25-0 shutout win over Carroll but has found themselves on the short end of the scoreboard with losses to Desoto, Ark. (35-7) Indianola (48-21) and a 32-12 setback to West Memphis, Ark. last Friday in a game that was tied 12-12 at halftime.

Senior quarterback Tyler Kitchings will call the signals for Bayou. Kitchings has completed 32-of-65 passing for 413 yards and five touchdowns with four interceptions.

Junior wide out Weber Herbison (13-251, 3TD’s) and Chantz Arbuckle (8-121, TD) are the Colts’ main receiving threats. Davis Dalton leads the team in rushing with 153 yards on 48 carries and one touchdown.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Colts will rely on leading tacklers Turner Davis (32 tackles) and Josh Duraj (26 tackles) to try and slow down a North Delta ground game that produced 356 yards rushing in a victory over Kirk.

For the second game in a row, two North Delta ball carriers eclipsed the 100-yard mark in rushing as Hays Hudson rushed for 147 yards on 10 carries while Chase Coker added 115 yards and two touchdowns against the Raiders.

Through the first four games, Coker leads the team in rushing with 521 yards on 61 carries and seven touchdowns. Hudson meanwhile is second with 37 carries for 308 yards and one touchdown.
Other rushers include, Hunter Baker (14-93 2TD’s) Bailey Sullivant (17-66 2TD’s) and Austin Redwine (18-52).

The North Delta defense that has held its last two opponents, Strayhorn and Kirk, to a combined seven yards rushing will tempt the Colts offense.

Bradley Booth, Tyler Hardin, Hunter Pitcher and Parker Jones lead the Green Wave defensive front.  While Baker, Sam Copeland, Sullivant and Redwine hold down the linebacking corps.
The North Delta defensive backfield will include Tyler Beard, Parker Neth, Andy Linder and Hudson at the safety position.
