One man has been released and another charged with capital murder in the ongoing investigation into the August 23 shooting death at North Panola High School that left Roderick Bobo dead and two others wounded.

Panola County Sheriff’s Dept. investigator Barry Thompson said analysis of evidence by the Mississippi Crime Lab led to dropping capital murder charges against Jonathan Jermaine Haynes of Sardis.

The evidence analysis resulted in capital murder charges against two additional suspects. Bobby Boyce, 1396 Hammond Hill Rd., Como, was charged Friday, September 6. Another suspect, Jamarcus Teon Arnold, has been taken into custody in Baltimore, Md. and is awaiting extradition to Panola County to face similar charges.

Darius Dontae McNeil and Quinterious Marshard Mabry were arrested and charged with capital murder August 24.

The charges originated with what District Attorney John Champion said “could only be described as a shootout” in the high school parking lot following the August 23 football game between North Panola and Rosa Fort High Schools. Champion and Panola County Sheriff Dennis Darby spoke at an August 26 press conference.

Investigators made extensive use of surveillance video to identify witnesses during the investigation. Other evidence gathered at the scene and recovered from suspects underwent crime lab analysis. Investigators are still waiting on DNA analysis from other evidence, Thompson said.

During the August 26 press conference, Champion acknowledged growing gang influence over Panola youth from Clarksdale, Greenville, Greenwood and, to a lesser extent, Memphis.
