Festivity forecast for Fri. and Sat. in Batesville

The forecast today for Springfest weekend is encouraging with only the threat of a possible thunderstorm Friday.

Saturday’s going to be warm. If it gets warm early, it might slow down the Racing for Paws runners and walkers who have become accustomed to unusually cool weather thus far this spring. But with so many runners now training themselves for marathons and half-marathons, what’s 5K anyway? Just a warm-up.

The 5K will be plenty for me, thank you. I’ll huff, puff, plod and enjoy seeing some folks that I have not seen since last year’s Racing for Paws. For many of us, it’s a big community outing.
Hopefully I will have completed the course by the time the Youth Talent Contest starts at 10 a.m.

The scheduled entertainment starts again (having first started with Friday night’s performances beginning at 6 p.m.) with Jameson Rodgers and just keeps on until headliner Josh Thompson closes out late Saturday evening. (Triple RRR, including two of our grandsons, will be somewhere in that mix).

Promoter Rodney Holley directed my attention to New Orleans singer/songwriter Paul Sanchez. I expect that Sanchez will bring his own version of music from that city. He was one of the primary singers and songwriters for Cowboy Mouth from 1990 to 2006.
Sanchez grew up in the Irish Channel neighborhood near our home. It’s also in the area of

Uptown New Orleans that’s home to  such characters as J. Monque’D and Ignatius J. Reilly. Sanchez now lives in Tremé, according to Wikopedia.

I’m not sure what’s on food vendors’ menus for Friday and Saturday, but there’s sure to be funnel cake and sufficient eats to create stomach aches for those of us who try harder in festival settings.

And rides. Springfest crams many rides into limited space, and at night when they are lighted, the festive atmosphere of food, music and fun permeates throughout.
Looking forward to Friday!
