Four candidates will square off next Tuesday in the special election for the District 11 House seat. The seat was vacated with the February 4 death of Rep. Joe Gardner.

The candidates are Marshall Bartlett, Anderson Boothe, Lataisha Jackson and Ederic Kerney. The Panolian conducted interviews with all four candidates. The stories are published on pages A6, A11 and A12.

Both courthouses will be open until noon Saturday, which is the deadline to cast an absentee ballot in the race.

The polls will  open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. on March 26 at 14 precincts across the county, including Como, Pleasant Mount, West Sardis, South Sardis, Pleasant Grove, Curtis, Macedonia-Concord, Batesville No. 3, Courtland, Tocowa, East Batesville, North Batesville A, North Batesville B and Enon.

District 11 includes most of western Panola County and a portion of Tate County.

If you are unsure if you vote in the district, contact the Circuit Clerk’s office in Batesville at 563-6210 or Sardis at 487-2073.

If no candidate gets a majority of the votes cast on March 26, the top two vote-getters will advance to a runoff on April 16.
