Police need help to identify armed robber at Wal-Mart

By Billy Davis
Batesville police are asking for the public’s help to identify a black male who held a Wal-Mart employee at gunpoint November 7 and robbed the store of I-Pads.

The armed robbery occurred at approximately 12:20 Wednesday morning in the electronics department at the store.

The gun-toting robber and an accomplice, a second black male, fled through an emergency exit in the grocery section, said BPD Detective George Williford.

The armed robber was wearing a red shirt and black cap. The accomplice was wearing a blue plaid flannel shirt.

The two men loaded up a shopping cart and walked around the store before the robbery, police said.

A Wal-Mart employee was held at gunpoint — a black  handgun was pointed at her head — and a second employee was chased off by the gunman, police said, citing video of the incident.

The detective said video footage from the store shows the armed robber went into the store wearing a badge clipped to his shirt, suggesting he may be employed in Batesville or somewhere nearby.

“Somebody works with him and knows who he is,” Williford told The Panolian.

Any tips about their identity can be made to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-729-2169, or to Batesville police at 563-5653.
