All three Panola County teams did a clean sweep over district opponents Friday night.
South Panola jumped a big hurdle with a 28-14 win over Olive Branch. North Delta took a 35-27 win over district foe Marshall.
One of the biggest wins of the night may have been the 24-14 North Panola win over previously undefeated M. S. Palmer in the opening district game for both teams.
North Panola led 16-0 at the half after two second quarter touchdowns by senior running back Cedric Clay and senior wide receiver Jaquay Daniels.
Clay scored on an 11-yard run with 9:27 left in the half. The two-point conversion by senior Tony Hibbler was good for the 8-0 lead.
Daniels hauled in a 42-yard strike in the endzone from sophomore quarterback Willie Hibbler with 20 seconds left in the half. Tony Hibbler also scored that two-point conversion.
Palmer scored on a 13 yard pass reception junior receiver Diamone Smith from junior quarterback Tywun Walters with 8:12 left in the third quarter but the two- point conversion failed. North Panola led 16-6 going into the final quarter.
The Cougar’ final scored was a nine-yard run by Tony Hibbler with 4:13 left in the game. He also took in his third two-point conversion of the night for the 24-6 lead.
However, Palmer was not finished as senior returner Sterling Robinzine retuned the ensuing kickoff 70-yards to cut the lead 24-14 with the two-point conversion.
The Cougars return home next week to host Winona in Region 3-3A action Friday with the new kickoff time of 7 p.m. while Palmer will host defending 3A champion Charleston.
