South Panola senior offensive lineman  Deon Mix had had his mind set on playing for the Mississippi State Bulldogs for awhile but came a step closer to that goal last week.

At football camp at Mississippi State, the 6’5”, 318 lb. Mix verbally committed to play for the Bulldogs.

“I always knew I wanted to go there but I was just waiting to make the right decision. I felt it was time to make the decision and felt at home doing it.”

Mix said felt the need to get it over with to take some pressure off.
“I was just ready to get it over with because I knew what I wanted to do and where I wanted to go.”

Several factors helped make Mix’s final decision to commit.

“The family environment made a huge impression on me along with how competitive they are, the way the coaches treat their players and the way the players treated me also. They embraced me like I was a player already.”

While at camp Mix said they worked him hard just like he was a player.

“I always feel I get better when I go down there.”

Mix isn’t sure if he’ll play guard or tackle right now for the Bulldogs. He ran the 440 in 2:440 and had a 26.7 jump.

As of now Mix is focusing on his senior year, his grades, getting another state championship and graduating.
