Pan-Gens to hold picnic

The John A. Carpenter home at 10078 Highway 35 South will again be the site of the annual picnic of the Panola County Historial and Genealogical Society’s (PanGens) annual picnic.

Anyone interested in local history is invited to the pot-luck affair that will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 28.

The home was built in 1869-’70 by Confederate veteran John Abel Carpenter, grandfather of the present owner, Emily Grace. Carpenter was a carpenter by trade as well as in name, and the home features hand-planed cypress and poplar planks in its construction.
