Judge Bill McKenzie reduced a $1,000,000 bond to half that amount during a preliminary hearing held in Batesville Municipal Court Wednesday for murder suspect, Marico Fondren.

Fondren, 1078 Rockhill Rd., Sardis, was given a reduced bond of $500,000 after testimony from Detective Captain Paul Shivers and his step-father, Steve Flowers.

“I realize whether bonds are cut in half or not, it does not give practical relief, but I’ll reduce it to $500,000,” McKenzie said.

Fondren was referred to the grand jury for the January murder of Jeremy Wright.

Initial appearances

Antonio Crump, 43 Tubbs Rd., Batesville, entered a not guilty plea to hitting Lawrence Hoskins at 120 Williams Street causing him to fall.
A trial was set for April 11.

Jeremy Smith, 227 Perkins Lane, Batesville, entered a not guilty plea to simple assault against Ronald Brown on January 8 by kicking and hitting.

A trial was set for April 25.

Lucas Lamb, 2378 Robinson, Water Valley, entered a not guilty plea to domestic violence – simple assault against Heather Lamb. A trial was set for April 18.

Michael Porter, 107 MLK, Batesville, entered a not guilty plea to domestic violence-simple assault by striking Tommieka Lee in the face on Martin Luther King Dr.
A trial was set for April 11.

Timothy Agulanna, 2919 Brandywine, Oxford, entered a not guilty plea to false information by attempting to mislead officers on March 21. Trial was set for April 18.

“I just told them I didn’t have my ID,” Agulanna said.

“Did you lie about who you were?” asked McKenzie.

Antonio Mister, 330 Ford Rd., Batesville, failed to appear to answer false information, no seat belt, no driver’s license and no proof of insurance. Alright Bonding was notified.

Shacarta Johnson, 105-A Nikki Dr., Senatobia, entered the city’s work release program for 22 days in lieu of paying $1,124 after pleading guilty to shoplifting 74 items worth $445.68 from Wal-Mart.

Robert Jones Jr., 3113-A Seven Rd., Batesville, was fined $2,438 for DUI, open container, false information, improper turn and no proof of insurance.

Allison Johnson, 104 1/2 Gracie Cove, Batesville, had contempt of court-old fines of $1,533 that have been due since April 2011.

Cases set for trial

Brandon Brewer, 1263 Shuford Rd., Courtland, was represented by Attorney Kirk Willingham for DUI, driving while license suspended and reckless driving.

A continuance was requested. The case will be heard at a later date.

A. C. Suggs, 202 Lester St., Batesville, was represented by Attorney Helen Kelly and had a case continued for DUI-second (refusal), driving while license suspended and no proof of insurance.

Sammy Red, 136 Compton Rd., Coldwater, represented by Attorney Helen Kelly had a case for DUI-second (refusal) and leaving the scene continued.

Jack Ryan Wilkinson, 517 McCain, Batesville, had a continuance granted for a trial for shoplifting.

He is represented by Attorney K. Bishop.

Jeremy Mayer, 33678 Atkinson, Batesville, was represented by Attorney K. Bishop for a shoplifting case from Wal-Mart and shoplifting from Piggly Wiggly.

In exchange for a plea, an agreement was made to reduce his charges to shoplifting-first and fined $1,324 including $200 in assessment fees.

He was also told to stay away from Piggly Wiggly and Wal-Mart.

Sirfabian D. Freeman, 104 1/2 Grace Cove, Batesville, was fined $796 for no proof of insurance and expired tag.

Germaine M. Williams, 88 Henry Dr., Courtland, was fined $194 for no proof of insurance.

Derrick D. Pride, 6084 Curtis Rd., Batesville, was fined $450 for no driver’s license and careless driving.

Jose L. Gonzeles, 100 Potts St. No. 1, Batesville, was fined $594 for no proof of insurance.

William D. Mister, 133 Hoskins Rd., Batesville, was fined $295 for no driver’s license.
