Researcher seeks information on history of females at Parchman

I am a doctoral candidate in the Department of History at the University of Mississippi.  I am currently working on my dissertation titled, “Please Don’t Forget About Me: The History of Women at Parchman Prison, 1890-1980.”

With this project depending heavily on oral histories, I am seeking to find voices from individuals who have or have had some kind of connection to Parchman or the penal system in Mississippi. For example, I would like to interview female prison guards, nurses, cooks, staff, former prisoners, social workers, custodians, or family members of individuals either previously or currently incarcerated.  The dissertation spans 90 years and I am particularly interested in the 1940s-1980.

I am asking for assistance from your readers, seeking any individuals who would like to participate. This project is for academic purposes only and not for profit.  All researched material, along with my dissertation, will belong to the University of Mississippi once completed.
