Retired Panola County Circuit Clerk Joe Reid will be honored with a charity fundraising “toast” Thursday, February 23 at the National Guard Armory in Batesville.

The Panola County Community Foundation and the South Panola Athletic Foundation will again join forces for the fundraiser. Last year football coaching legend Willis Wright has honored raising thousands of dollars for local charities and the athletic foundation.

Reid served as Panola’s circuit clerk for five terms beginning in 1992. He ran unsuccessfully for chancery clerk in 1987, regrouped and ran for the Circuit Clerk’s post when the late Bob Carter decided not to run for reelection.

Prior to his public service, Reid farmed cotton and soybeans in and around Curtis where his family resided.

Reid’s numerous quips over the years should make interesting conversation for the fundraising “toast” and make for a fun evening, a spokesman said. Tickets are available at the main branch of First Security Bank, Bancorp South, The Panolian, Pride Hyundai and The Southern Reporter in Sardis. Tables are also available for sponsorships.

The event will begin at 6 p.m. with a get together with dinner following shortly before the “toasting.”
